The Yawkey MR Imaging Center is equipped with a state of the art family of Siemens Magnetom scanners, including the 1.5 T Avanto and one of the country's first 3.0 Tesla (3T) clinical whole body MRI units (Trio). Both these systems are equipped with Total Imaging Matrix (TIM) systems. This new technology is the first seamless, whole body surface coil design that combines 76 integrated coil elements with up to 32 RF Channels. TIM virtually eliminates the need for patient repositioning and manual coil changes, while providing enhanced image quality. The system's surface coil design makes 205 cm (6' 9") whole body imaging possible in a single exam, improving the signal-to-noise ratio and shortening acquisition times. TIM has 76 integrated coil elements, up to 32 channels (76x32), and its integrated coil weighs under 2 pounds. The system also features company's iPAT (Integrated Parallel Acquisition Technique), which offers fast image acquisition with parallel imaging in all dimensions, including head to toe, front to back, and side to side. Using these advanced imaging techniques, members of the CDP program have been able to achieve high spatial and temporal resolution for clinical research protocols.
Yawkey Clinical Discovery Program Office
The CDP office is located in the Oncology Center and facilitates exchange between the oncology services and imaging. The is equipped with a dedicated Clinical Agfa PACS system, a Siemens Syngo MR workstation for direct access to the Magnetom data, MIPortalR and CMIR_Image. The independent workstation also allows real time image analysis and reconstruction using various software applets.
